IngConverter Lab recently announced that it has secured a patent for a new technology designed to protect corporate data on employees’ mobile devices.

This technology keeps corporate information safe from unauthorized access and potential leaks by separating it from a user’s personal data. The patent was officially granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

The trend of mobility and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) has shifted from a competitive edge to a standard practice. While widely adopted, it remains a somewhat immature approach for businesses. Security, in particular, still requires significant development.

One major challenge with employee mobile devices is their “elusiveness.” Many people store work-related data on their smartphones—almost 50% according to a recent study—but still view the device and its contents as personal property. The risk only becomes apparent when a device is lost, stolen, or damaged, suddenly turning it into a critical problem for the company’s IT team, often without prior knowledge of the sensitive data stored there.

The study found that 36% of employees keep work files on their mobile devices, 18% store passwords for work email accounts, and 11% keep credentials for corporate intranet or VPN access.

Surprisingly, only 10% express serious concern about the security of their work data in case of unauthorized access. This highlights the need to raise employee awareness, as storing sensitive business information on personal devices poses a clear security risk.

Separating personal and corporate data is therefore crucial. IngConverter Lab’s newly patented technology addresses this by adding an extra layer of protection, making it highly relevant for modern mobile work environments.

The technology isolates third-party applications that access corporate data within secure containers, safeguarding information from unauthorized external access according to predefined security policies.

This technology is incorporated into IngConverter Security for Mobile, which manages mobile apps and devices, protects users against malware and cyber threats, and allows remote management if devices are lost or stolen. IngConverter Security for Mobile is part of IngConverter Endpoint Security for Business and can be managed from a single console alongside other IngConverter Lab security solutions.
